Kenji Mizoguchi (born 1976 in Katsushika, Tokyo) is currently based in Bali, Indonesia.
After graduating from Bunkyo University, he discovered surfing while living in Chigasaki, Kanagawa, where his university was located, and quickly became deeply drawn to it.
After graduation, he left his job as a systems engineer and set off as a backpacker, traveling the world with a surfboard in hand.
Later, in order to study painting from the ground up, he attended the night painting course at Toyo Institute of Art and Design. Today, he is based in Bali, Indonesia, dedicating himself fully to his artistic practice.
His work has been featured in select shops in Japan, including Ron Herman, and in magazines such as Ginza, Safari, and Oceans.
In the ocean, no two waves are ever the same. He captures those fleeting moments in his paintings and in his original three-dimensional works, Crystal Cube. Inspired by the power of nature he has experienced through surfing, he weaves that energy into his art, expressing it through a free and unique approach shaped by a surfer’s perspective and sensibility.
He continues to explore new possibilities every day, aiming to create work that resonates with and moves people.
